A man and his wife

had the good fortune

to possess a goose which

laid

a golden egg every day. Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not

getting rich

fast enough, and, imaging the bird must

be made of

gold inside, they decided to kill it

in order to

secure the whole store of precious metal

at once

. But when they cut it open they found it was just like any other goose. Thus, they

neither

got rich all at once, as they had hoped,

nor

enjoyed any longer the daily addition to their

wealth

.

Much wants more and loses all.

一对夫妇很幸运，他们有一只鹅可以下金蛋，这只鹅每天都可以下一个金蛋。即便如此幸运，没过多久他们就开始觉得自己的财富不够快，所以他们猜测鹅的身体里一定都是金子。他们决定杀死鹅，一次性得到里面所有的宝藏。但是当他们把鹅开膛破肚的时候，却发现鹅和普通鹅没什么区别。所以，他们并没有像预期的那样突然变得富有，而且从此享受不到每天财富增加的快乐。

贪得无厌的人都输了。

在这个故事中，我们将学习真实的表达方式：

1/ have good fortune 好运，好运

Fortune表示好运，机会。所以好运就是havee。 good fortune.

2/ lay eggs 生蛋

Lay的意思是躺下，产卵。这里显然意味着产卵。

3/ get rich 变得富有

在get后面添加修饰词，表示变化。例如，增加get。 big, 长胖get fat, 变得富有get rich。

4/ be made of 由...制成的

Made表示制造，制造。Be made of...后面的材料，则表示是由这些材料加工而成。举例来说，be made of wood,它是由木制成的，be made of gold, 它是由黄金制成的。

5/ in order to...为了。。。

6/ at once 立即，立刻

这个短语表示时间，可以放在句子的末尾。举例来说，do it at once，立刻去做。Run at once, 立刻跑了。

7/ neither...nor...没有。也没有。。。。。

尽管在这一表达中没有no或not这样的否定词，但是它本身就有自己的否定意义。Neither A nor B, 也就是说，A和B哪一个都不是，既不是A，也不是B。

8/ wealth 财富

Wealth是名词形式的财富，而wealthy则意味着财富和财富。比如a wealthy family 富裕家庭。

理解了这些单词的含义，让我们再听一遍这个寓言。
