在读这本书之前，我反对整天对孩子说一些英语句子，比如宝宝，你打嗝放屁，把鞋带系在一个极其无营养的英语句子上。是的，如果你真的想说这些话，就说中文。作为学习英语的母亲，她们应该告诉孩子的是优质语言，也就是优质语言Hart和Risley提到的，quality。重复一遍，母亲和孩子说的话，不仅要多，还要规定有质量，而且要注意说话的方式。

这句话的意思是，如果一个孩子在0-3岁时吃东西，缺乏营养，会影响他的身高；婴儿的大脑是一样的。如果缺乏足够的语言水分，也会影响孩子实现自身潜力的能力。这句话让我想起了一篇关于托福听力的文章。一般来说，如果小鹿出生时缺乏足够的食物，即使他成年后有足够的食物，他也不能改变他的矮瘦状态。

如今，我们的70后、80后甚至90后母亲通常都有基本的英语能力。因此，母亲们结合市场上高质量的英语图画书和分级阅读材料，教孩子们简单的名词、动词，甚至是小句子，这并不难。但大多数母亲都会面临一个两难的问题：除此之外，我还能对我的孩子说些什么呢？特别是，有些母亲是英语老师，总是觉得这样的英语启蒙，缺少什么？

是的，缺少的是更高端的语言。例如，My little treasure, I love you. You are indispensable to me. You are the whole world to me.有些妈妈会担心这些抽象的语言，说宝宝能听懂吗？其实你不用担心。正如这段英语所说，高级语言，需要思考的语言，有利于宝宝大脑的发育。从我刚才提到的一串句子中，妈妈们会说I love you，通过母亲说I love you婴儿应该能够慢慢理解语气、眼睛和动作I love you的意思。那么在这个时候，如果我们将My little treasure, I love you. You are indispensable to me. You are the whole world to me.这一长串的句子连在一起，婴儿的大脑会积极处理信息。所以这个过程，有利于孩子的大脑发育。

最后，我们使用了迪士尼卡通玩具小医生的编剧Chris Nee的话末尾：Dr. Suskind’s work reveals that the greatest gift we can give our children is free. How empowering to understand that it doesn’t take money to give our children advantages in the world, it takes words. Her research is vital.
